When I started out as a freelance writer, I was still working full-time as an in-house marketing professional. Writing about pop culture was a side hustle: something I loved doing (and appreciated getting paid for) but that I also had to squeeze in around my actual day job. I needed a regular freelance writing gig that wouldn’t demand more time than I had to give – writing list articles for Screen Rant was that gig.

From 2017 to 2019, I pitched, researched and drafted multiple movie-focused “listicles” a week, and the lessons I learned and skills I developed along the way were invaluable. By the end of my Screen Rant stint, I was a better (and faster!) writer with a real appreciation for how to produce content that balanced real insight with commercial appeal.
